I did not realize so many people were interested in their dental health, but I'm stoked about it! I got a lot of feedback from my last post about my first experience at a holistic dentist.
It isn't easy to transition to more holistic and natural practices. Finding the information can be very difficult and time consuming and a lot of you have really great questions about it.
Thankfully, I've already done a good chunk of the research, so I'm going to try to answer as many questions as I can here.

What is your dental routine?
I used a three phase process to switch to a clean, organic, whole food diet that supported my body's natural functions and detoxing. I believe this is the main factor of why my dental health turned around.

Right when I wake up to start getting ready, I do 20 minutes of oil pulling. I get a spoon from the kitchen, scoop half a spoonful of organic coconut oil, melt it in my mouth and then swish it around through my teeth while I get ready. After about 20 minutes, I spit it out into the trash can. Don't spit into the sink, it will clog the drains.
Yes, it's slightly gross at first. But the faster you melt it, the easier it is. I wouldn't recommend heating it before you put it in your mouth because it gets hot very fast.
The coconut oil literally breaks through the cell walls of the bad bacteria, then sucks it up into the oil. Then you spit it all out into the trash can. SCIENCE.
Morning and Night
Either after you oil pull in the morning, or right before bed, brush your teeth. But do NOT use typical toothpaste from the store, ESPECIALLY the kind with fluoride. It's no bueno. You can read more about that here.

Before I shower
I make sure to dry brush daily before I shower. Dry brushing is not brushing your teeth without water or toothpaste. It's taking a natural-bristle brush and firmly, but gently, brush your skin in long strokes toward your heart.
I know, it's weird to mention something that has seemingly nothing to do with my teeth, but pretending our teeth aren't connected to our entire body is actually the weird thing.
Our mouths have an absorption rate of more than 90 percent! Whatever you put into your mouth goes directly into your blood stream, which means you're probably loading your lymphatic system up with a lot of toxins.
Now, your lymphatic system doesn't drain on it's own. It needs help from moving your body by jumping or massaging it. Dry brushing increases circulation and helps get your lymphatic system draining.
BONUS: It exfoliates your skin for a youthful glow. Bam.

Before or with meals
Listen. If your "gut" is not healthy, nothing will be healthy. Your gut meaning your digestive tract. On top of eating a plant-based, whole food diet, I supplement with things that aid my digestion. I also am starting to use a straw, especially when I drink lemon water, so that I protect my enamel from acidic drinks.
